Description
This is an action-adventurous game based on the 2007 film of the same name for PS2. After the release of the American superhero film then this game was launched. This series was published by Activision Publishing, Inc., which is present in California. It is the third series of the main series. It is the sequel to series 2, itself based on the 2004 film of the same name. The PS3 and Xbox versions were developed by Treyarch, and the Windows versions were developed by Beenox.
The series has received mostly positive reviews for all versions except the Nintendo DS version. Most of the criticism was aimed at the game’s graphics, short length, and technical issues, as well as its similarities to previous games. Differences between platforms were another point of criticism. The game follows a 2008 game in the series that has no connection to the films. This game is loosely connected to a beat ’em up. The game was removed from all platforms on 4th January 2017 after the game’s developer contract with Marvel expired.
Gameplay
This version of the game is similar to its next generation. The combat system of this game is mostly ground-based. The main narrative is unchanged except for several changed missions. The map also has some aesthetic changes due to the limitations of consoles in this game. The next generation version also includes CGI cut scenes in addition to full use of several scenes. The most notable change in gameplay is Spider-Man’s ability to change between a red suit, a blue suit, and a black suit during any short-lived event. If the black suit is worn too long during main gameplay, the symbiote spider corrupts the mana resulting in a game over. After it is removed the black coat can be read again. After the main story ends, the Black Man’s anger gradually subsides without killing Spider-Man.
The game has an upgrade system where upgrades need to be purchased manually such as any upgrade for the black suit. Upgrades are purchased through Hero Points. Similarly, Spider-Man 2 is unlocked by completing this story mission or side mission. Unlike previous games in the series, these random missions are activated by a radio transmission, allowing players to accept or reject them. The collectibles and crime wave mechanic return, albeit with several changes. The collectible, which symbolizes the spider, that can only be found in story missions, actually unlocks the black robe and rewards the player once found. Instead of clearing gangs in this game, players aim to help the NYPD take over.
