About Games
Shadow of Rome is an action-adventure 3D video game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 2. The game was released mainly in Europe, North America, and Japan, and later it was released in every country. The game’s plot is a fictionalized version of the assassination of Julius Caesar, focusing mainly on two characters. The two characters are Agrippa (a soldier whose father is accused of murdering Caesar) and Octavianus (who is trying to prove the murder of Agrippa’s father). The game received favorable reviews. The game was originally conceived as the first part of the franchise aimed specifically at Western audiences. However, due to poor sales, the game was decided to be canceled, and the game eventually became Dead Rising.
The events of the game take place in ancient Rome in 44 BC. Corruption and war-induced depression in ancient Rome led to the rise of Julius Caesar. Caesar spoke of a confidence that would unite the people and lead them out of chaos. Caesar directed his ascension to restore Rome to its former glory. Then on the Ides of March, Julius Caesar was assassinated in a way that changed the face of the Western world. This event above the game is known as the “Ides of March”. Agrippa goes deeper into the assassination plot to assassinate the centurion and Octavianus and tries to clear Agrippa’s father, Vipsanius, who is accused of murdering Caesar, of such wrongful charges. The goal of this game is to completely clear the name of Vipsanius.
Features
- The game features two types of combat, melee combat (which is close combat with melee weapons) and vehicular combat, as well as stealth gameplay incorporating basic puzzle solving.
- The game’s main character is Agrippa, who can use various weapons such as swords, spears, bows, slingshots, and flails.
- A meter indicates the remaining vitality of Agrippa’s weapon and helmet during battle.
- Agrippa can also throw weapons at his enemies and fight with his fists.
- Here Agripe can attack from the ground by throwing sand in the face of a face-to-face enemy, and he can make a stab attack on hit enemies.
- Salvo points (specific actions or combinations of actions that excite the crowd) are an important aspect of the game’s combat.
- If the player performs a salvo action by Agrippa, he is awarded salvo points.
- At the end of each game, Agrippa is given a ranking post based on the total salvo points earned in battle.
- In chariot-racing mode, Agrippa must race against other chariots and win by killing all his opponents to cross the finish line first.
- Agrippa can whip his horses to speed them up but this drains the horse’s stamina gauge.
- During Octavianus’ stealth level, the player can navigate various locations in Rome using stealth.
- Other ways to avoid enemies here include hiding in large containers, stealing clothes, and impersonating guards.
- Even when Octavianus is in disguise, enemies may find him suspicious if he does anything unusual, such as running or trying to open a locked door.
