Description
Each of the Sony PlayStation consoles has another game released called “Prince of Persia: Warrior Within” which is an action-adventure video game. This game is the fifth installment in the main series. The story behind the game follows Yuvraj, the main character of Gom, as he searches for a way to stop a man named Dahaka he is relentlessly pursuing him as punishment for his meddling with the Sands of Time. He travels to the mysterious Island of Time where he tries to stop the Empress of Time from creating sand, and after doing so hopes that this act will appease Dahaka.
The game received positive reviews from critics and users upon release, who noted the improved combat, level design, story, and soundtrack. However, the characterization of Yuvraj, the main character in the game has garnered mixed responses. Following the release of this game, two other games set in the sequel to The Sands of Time were released, The Two Thrones, which is a full sequel to The Warrior Within, and one more.
Gameplay
Much like its predecessor games, the gameplay of this game is much the same but with some changes. The world of this game is highly non-linear; Players can return to visited locations from various directions, often finding ways to traverse portals to observe current and past locations to find obstacles that may be inaccessible at both times. Additional points in the game and weapons to fight Dahaka can be found from hidden locations. The game has episodes where the Prince can be chased by Dahaka and quickly find himself in a secret area to find a trap to reach safety. Instead of the color palette of previous games, the game’s environments or maps are given a distinctly dark and edgy theme.
The game’s combat system updates the melee combat aspects in a new way. With this added feature in the game, this new combat system puts more emphasis on a free-flowing combat style. Use 58 secondary weapons and the Prince’s acrobatic abilities to defeat or outright kill enemies with ease and aggression. Two-handed combat introduces additional acrobatic combos to take down enemies with greater skill and brutality. In the game, off-hand weapons have various penalties applied to player damage and hit areas. Along with the bosses in this game, the enemies are also sand creatures of different sizes.
Like the Sands of Time, the Prince also has limited time control with his Medallion of Time. Sands can be used for more efficient and better combat as well as slow downs allowing the Prince to escape from Dahaka. Later, Yuvraj can unlock more devastating sand powers. All sand energy is now stored in sand tanks, and using multiple full tanks requires gaining more powerful abilities.
